Born in Oliveira de Azeméis, Eduardo Martins graduated in law from the University of Coimbra (1968). He also holds a postgraduate degree in Company Management and Organisation from the Free University of Brussels (1974) and an MBA from AESE / University of Navarra (1984-1985).
A practicing lawyer since October 1968 and founder of EJM, he was the Human Resources Director of Portuguese Telecommunications from 1978 to 1983 and Chief of Staff to the State Secretary for Communications in the IX Portuguese Government from 1983 to 1985.
From 1985 to 1989, he was the Deputy Director of Portuguese Telecommunications, after which he was Executive Director of TAP Air Portugal, SA from 1989 to 1992, being in charge of Telecommunications and Information Systems, Legal Affairs, Human Resources, Safety and the Incorporation of New Companies, including Air Macau.
He was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Megasis, SA, a TAP-owned Information Systems company, from 1990 to 1993, and a Member of the Board of Directors of Telesp Participações from 1998 to 2001.
He was the Executive Director of TV Cabo Portugal from 1994 to 1996 and from 1998 to 2001. He was a Member of the Board of Directors of Portugal Telecom, SGPS, SA from 1996 to 2001 and served as a Member of the Board of Directors of Páginas Amarelas, SA from 1997 to 2003.
From 1999 to 2001, he was the Chairman of the Board of Directors and of the Executive Committee of PT Multimédia SGPS, SA. He was also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Macau Cable TV from 2000 to 2007 and a Member of the Board of Directors of BANCO1.net, the first Electronic Bank in Brazil, led by Unibanco, in 2000 and 2001.
He was a Member of the Board of Directors of CDMI Productions, Inc., a company based in Los Angeles, California, from 2003 to 2008, and he has been a partner and CEO of the international consulting firm EM Consulting since December 2002.
